Devotional 2018

While studying for my masters degree from DWU, I took a course in leadership. We studied and researched some of most well-known leaders in the world. It was eye-opening to read about the leadership skills of the great “I am.”  I had always gone to church growing up, but I had never seen Jesus as the CEO of my life. In the book, Jesus, CEO by Laurie Beth Jones, it talks about the “I am” statements that Jesus spoke of and then became. Examples of this are, “I am the bread of life. I am the light of the world, I am the good shepherd, I am the way, the truth and the life. He used positive words, always. Laurie explores a proverb that says, “ A man’s curses will fall and wrap themselves around him like a cloak.” In reflection, we are asked, what if every word we said fell and wrapped itself around us like a garment? What kind of wardrobe would we have?” What kind of wardrobe would our children have? Our spouses, friends and co-workers? In Philippians 3:17, we are asked to imitate the example of Jesus. This is my hope for you. To seek patience, peace, understanding, self-control, kind words, open minds and an overall love for one another.
